This album was released sometime last year and even though I completely missed it and this review is only to make sure, if you show an interest to this kind of music of course, this band is noticed and praised for what it really is. Sorry for the review, I'm not used to writing on experimental bands and have a very very limited knowledge of the genre and general electro, so...
Genghis Tron is an act hailing from NY playing experimental metal. Understand something close to industrial but this ain't the usual dancing indus thing and they managed to blend their death metal / grindcore stuff with IDM, Power Noise, Indusrial and Ambient. The band is not featured on Encyclopaedia Metallum because they do not fit in any metal category it seems. I disagree with the gentlemen there as it doesn't make sense to allow The Berzerker (band which I love) in and not Genghis Tron because 'Board Up The House' is everything but a grindcore release (they're released by Relapse Records on top of that!!) and the closest band to TB is Tron, whose release surpasses The Reawakening imho.
The music is very apocalyptic, take a brutal death metal act and add in some electronics a la Atari Teenage Riot, this is what the album sounds like. For sure not everyone would find it interesting and fans of Aghoraphobic Nosebleed would be pleased to know that a band, created a bastard amount of noise that in the end, did have some atmosphere to it unlike AN, they do go somewhere sans tapper dans tous les sens.
The band plays their instruments beautifully (haha that was a joke - should have found something like malmener instead) and the voice.. Reminds me of Kevin Sharpe's shrieking vocals (the singer of Brutal Truth) which can only be a reference. The keyboards are present and create the atmosphere I mentioned earlier but they are mostly used for the electro thing, machine noises and all. Regarding the drums, I noticed no drummer but drums can be heard in some of the tracks (doesn't mean there are no beats in the other songs!), most probably a session one..
Overall the album was an experience, not the thing I would keep on listening all day long, but for change, it was worth it.. -8/10-
