Guys, the idea for the topic came while listening to ACDC's Thunderstruck yesterday (my first metal song ever!) and was wondering what are the albums you would consider as 'Classics'?

No restrictions on the number of albums.

Bon allons-y, mais seulement pour les sixties-début eighties, et là encore il m'est impossible d'être exhaustif...

Deep Purple - Made in Japan (celui qui a tout lancé pour moi), In Rock, Machine head
Rush - Moving pictures
Marillion - Misplaced childhood
Jimi Hendrix - Band of gypsys
Pink Floyd - Dark side of the moon, Wish you were here, The wall
Led Zeppelin - I, IV, Physical graffiti
Status Quo - live
Foghat - Live
Thin Lizzy - Live and dangerous
Ted Nugent - Double live gonzo
AC/DC - Back in black, If you want blood you've got it
Whitesnake - Live in the heart of the city/Live at Hammersmith
Rainbow - Rising, On stage
Trust - Répression
Riot - Fire down under
Van Halen - 1st album
UFO - Strangers in the night
Iron Maiden - difficile, mais on va dire le premier album
Frank Marino et Mahogany Rush - Live
Mahavishnu Orchestra - Birds of fire

Beaucoup de live donc :)

Maiden - Number of the beast, Somewhere in time
Dio - Holy Diver ( itz been ages i didnt hear that one)
Slayer - South of heaven
Yngwie Malmsteen - The Seventh Sign
Quite a few sabbath tunes

But a question "what makes an album a classic " ?? is it the period it was released?? or is it the sound it has?? or ... can an album be released now in 2009 and be considered as a classic album .....

an album that helped frame the way metal currently is regardless of the year it was released, that's what I meant by classic.

I always thought that there's a firm distinction between hard-rock and metal ; all the bands I listed above, besides Maiden, are rock or hard rock, they can't define "metal". Judas Priest and Black Sabbath are two major metal bands from that area for me. And as I forgot them :
Judas Priest - Screaming for vengeance (but I love Point of entry too)
Black Sabbath - Heaven and hell (Dio rules)

For me a "classic" album is an album who stand the test of time, and which is still considered as a landmark for the band it's from and for the period it was released. It's not a very personal choice, but a general one. Of course there' s some personal choices in my list (Riot, Ted Nugent, Frank Marino, and for Hendrix, "Axis bold as love would" be the real classic according to consensus between fans), but also real classics (Led Zep, Deep Purple)

Desole. Wrongly expressed myself, par metal je voulais dire rock / metal / hardrock, thing is metal comes easily when I speak d'ou la confusion.

Donc pour reformuler, ce seraient les albums qui sont considere comme inevitable.. Enfin that's what I tried to portray in my list even though I did choose 'Death' (a band I never liked) mais indispensable.
